The Cats squeaked out a two run win over the Dudes. John Eveland paced the offense with a perfect 4/4/4/5 night including a homer and double. Kevin Riley and Aaron Gendelman also had perfect nights at the plate. Aaron knocked in four runs with a double, and Kevin drove in three with a homer.

WEEK 4-GOATS vs. NIGHT OF THE LIVING RED

My good buddy Jason Dreas and his squad of Goats showed up on our home turf looking to snatch a win from us. What followed was an awesome game.

The Goats got two in the top of the 1st, and we answered with a goose egg.

They added three more in the 2nd, and RED finally got rolling with three of our own.

From there, both teams just kept swinging.

By the time we got to the 7th inning, the score was tied 19–19. And honestly, that’s about as perfect a situation as you can ask for with both teams getting to start the inning at the top of the lineup.

After last week’s tie, there was no way we were doing that again.

No tie. No way. Somebody was winning this damn game.

RED played some big-time defense in the top of the 7th and held the Goats to just one run, making it 20–19 heading into the bottom half.

Then it was our turn.

Alex Noon started things off by smoking a line drive to right.

I came up next with a chance to end it, but Nick James apparently had other plans and tracked down my shot.

Jorge stepped in and smashed a clean single, moving Alex—the tying run—to third and putting Jorge on base as the potential winning run.

That brought Big Bob Cain to the plate.

Bob smashed a shot to center.

Alex scored easily to tie the game.

Jorge came flying around the bases and then pulled off a little fake toward home, drawing the throw from the outfield.

Meanwhile, Bob was basically jogging his way toward third, practically inviting the catcher to come get him.

And it worked.

The catcher fired the ball to second to try to get Bob.

Jorge took off for home.

The throw never mattered.

Jorge crossed the plate with a smile on his face, and just like that…

RED WALKED IT OFF.

21–20.

That’s a pretty rough way for the Goats to lose one, but after last week’s tie, we’ll take it.

BIG PLAYS ALL NIGHT

There were so many big hits and defensive plays in this game that there’s no way I can remember them all. That’s what happens when you put 41 runs on the board. At some point you’re basically just trying to remember what inning it is.

Jorge had an outstanding game at third base, making multiple line drive  catches and coming up with grounders that completely changed the game. He meant business  over there.

Jesse had a fantastic night as well.

Jesse went 4–4 with 4 RBI and showed off the arm.

One play in particular was huge.

A grounder came to me at short, and I tried to look Miko back. As soon as I threw to first, Miko took off for home.

He probably wasn’t expecting Jesse at first to fire an absolute strike home.

With Jonathon Tappen there to make the catch, the throw beat Miko by about a foot.

Big-time double play.

LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON

We also have to talk about the power displayed by Clint and his dad Ray.

Clint absolutely smoked an RBI triple over the center fielder’s head.

Two batters later, Ray stepped up and absolutely crushed one into the left-center gap.

Ray wasn’t exactly taking his time around the bases either.

He was hauling ass and turned it into an inside-the-park homer, beating the throw home by about a foot.

That’s one way to keep the family name in the box score.

AARON WAS DEALING

Aaron Dragoo had a monster night at the plate.

He went 3–4 with 6 RBI, including a massive 3-run homer into the left-center gap.

Six RBI in a 21-run game is doing some serious damage.

THE PINCH-RUNNING DEPARTMENT

Huge props to Alex Noon and Craig Dye.

Both guys had 3 hits, scored 3 runs each, and did what felt like approximately 47 innings worth of pinch running.

I’m pretty sure both of them woke up this morning wondering why their legs were angry at them.

They earned it.

FINAL: NIGHT OF THE LIVING RED 21 — GOATS 20

A hell of a game against a good team and a bunch of guys we know well.

It went back and forth all night, came down to the final inning, and after last week’s tie, RED wasn’t leaving the field without a winner.
